چکیده

Sponsored by Defense Threat Reduction Agency Contract DSWA01-98-C-0176 The Mine The cooperating mine was the Morenci Mine operated by Phelps-Dodge in SE Arizona. The scale of the operation is illustrated below. The mine produces over 25% of all US copper. Three to five blasts are detonated daily. During July and August, 31% of the events in the USGS Mine Event List were from this mine. Regional magnitudes for these events ranged from 2.4 to 3.1. Study Philosophy A study has been undertaken to quantify physical processes associated with mining explosions that generate seismic and infrasonic waves. Experimental components included in-mine blast diagnostics, in-mine seismic and infrasound instruments, and regional seismic and infrasound stations and arrays. In-mine and regional stations are diagramed below. This poster focuses on amplitude scaling effects of seismic and infrasound signals from different blasts within a single mine.

Blast Design for Improved Productivity using a Modified Available Energy Method

In this work, a new drilling and blasting design methodology is introduced and applied at a case study mine to improve productivity. For the case study copper mine, a blast diameter of 203 mm is proposed to be used in the ore zone to meet the new required production rate of 90mtpa from 75mtpa. Currently, the Konya and Walter’s model is used to generate drilling and blasting design at a bl...

Predicting peak particle velocity by artificial neural networks and multivariate regression analysis - Sarcheshmeh copper mine, Kerman, Iran

Ground vibrations caused by blasting are undesirable results in the mining industry and can cause serious damage to the nearby buildings and facilities; therefore, controlling such vibrations has an important role in reducing the environmental damaging effects. Controlling vibration caused by blasting can be achieved once peak particle velocity (PPV) is predicted. In this paper, the values of P...

Blast vibration modeling using linear superposition method

A linear superposition method was used for modeling the time history of the production blast vibrations and optimizing the blast sequence to reduce vibration levels in Sar-Cheshmeh copper mine, Kerman, Iran. A single-hole blast for modeling and two double-hole blasts with time delays of 25 and 65 ms between two holes for modeling validation were carried out. The generated vibrations were measur...

OPTIMAL WIND RESISTANT DESIGN OF TALL BUILDINGS UTILIZING MINE BLAST ALGORITHM

Practical design of tall frame-tube and diagrids are formulated as two discrete optimization problems searching for minimal weight undercodified constraints under gravitational and wind loading due to Iranian codes of practice for steel structures (Part 6 & Part 10). Particular encoding of design vector is proposed to efficiently handle both problems leading to minimal search space. Two types o...

A New Cost Model for Estimation of Open Pit Copper Mine Capital Expenditure

One of the most important issues in all stages of mining study is capital cost estimation. Determination of capital expenditure is a challenging issue for mine designers. In recent decade, quite a few number of studies have focused on proposing estimation models to predict mining capital cost. However, these efforts have not achieved to a predictor model with reliable range of error. Both of ov...
